Normally, when a musician tells us that he's taken 10 years to record and release a song we'd be asking serious questions about his time-management skills... but the eventual release of Ben Salter's solo album "The Cat" has been stymied by his prolific involvement in The Gin Club, Giants Of Science, The WIlson Pickers and The Young Liberals which (and excuse us if we've lost count), has involved the release of at least 1 Double Album, 13 full length albums and 7 EP's in the last decade.

Ben's drive to play sh*tloads of music hasn't precluded the vast majority of his ouvre being staggeringly good,  so it was with some anticipation that we waited for his solo work.

Ben says of the "The Coward" which is the lead song off the album, "It was originally called “Yellow” but Coldplay then had a huge smash hit with a song called that, the bastards, so I have had to change it. It’s about girls, share housing and moclobemide" . This mix of a wry a sense of humour, a touch of ambition, humility and some anti-depressants does a pretty great job of summing up much of the album. 'The Coward' reveals itself to be a song of grace and intrigue, unfurling at the beginning as another earnest rock song before swathes of organ, masculine chord progressions, structural changes and the odd melodic hook make a song so simple at first glance an engrossing three minute trip. If you hadn't guessed we friggin' love it, it's way than Coldplays version.
