The Eagle & The Worm

I first saw the Eagle & The Worm at the Saturday night 2am gig at Pony. It was a shambolic affair, 8 people on stage in various stages of innebriation, horns, trombones, lanky baseplayers, keys, chipmunk high voices. A cacophony for the eyes and ears. Add to that the usual glorious dissarray of Melbourne's best after midnight bar and I left thinking that what I'd seen was a truly awesome, never to be repeated performance... a great band that belonged in that time and place but a great band nonetheless.
Well, after stumbling upon their videos, hearing the first signs of radio love and watching them support Dan Kelly I realise that perhaps my 3am judgement was a little harsh. The Eagle And The Worm are f*cking great but they're also f*cking great at any time of the day.
Eagle and The Worms is a big-dynamic, loose ended fanfare. A revolving cast of (extrenmely talented) musicians, taking their cues from The Beatles, The E-Street Band, Elton John, New Orleans Soul and The Beachboys. They've got to be heard to be believed.
The Eagle and The Worm will play at Federation Square on October 2nd at a gig presented by AIR... shhhhhhh... it's a secret.
