Whether playing live or on record, Tinpan Orange perform gorgeous, intricate folk to warm the cockles of your heart. This little blog about the upcoming Storm In A Teacup tour was written by Tinpan Orange's Emily Lubitz and it's as sweet and eloquent as we would have expected from these guys.

The video above is the first single in the leadup to their new album...

The Storm in a teacup gigs will also feature Jen Cloher, Harry James Angus, Jordie Lane, Liz Martin (last week's blogger) and Husky.

Yesterday afternoon I sat in a tiny bar and watched a bunch of old men play old jazz. The bar was packed. People had to sit on the floor and you couldn’t cross the room without brushing past the sax player or the trumpet player, 85 year old Gil Askey. He spoke in a Texan accent about when he was a young cat and played the trumpet like an old record you might buy for two bucks at a garage sale… from people selling their dead grandmother’s things, who don’t realise the preciousness of what they’re selling. No one opened their mouths except to sing along or shout ‘yeah!’ after a solo.

Old fashioned. Beyond fashion. Outside of the modern music business paradigm. Full of joy and melancholy. And I had a moment. You see I’m seven months pregnant so I have moments quite often. But this was a moment worth mentioning. My moment was that I was so excited that this was the world my baby was going to live in. A room full of people swept up in a song. That’s all.

And so 11 musicians are getting together to play some songs. And many of us are friends and neighbours. Some of us are family. We all care for what one another is doing musically. And we’re going to sing together. And play together. I think it’s a good thing to play music for the love of it. It’s cool when people do anything just for the love of it; whether it’s making thousands of paper flowers and putting them on a round-about in London and waiting for the rain to wash them away or writing a song that no one else will hear. And so, the community of musicians we have built will pretty much be ovulating like a spring day in the Galapagos Islands over three shows. I suspect I’ll have a moment… or two…
